FIFA World Cup 2026 Group L: Prediction, Latest Odds, Squad Analysis by GoalBible
Group L might just be the most straightforward group on paper — but football has a habit of making fools out of certainties. England come in as heavy favourites, Croatia arrive with tournament pedigree that demands respect, Ghana carry a point to prove, and Panama are quietly building something real under an underrated manager. Let me break it all down.

England Group L Odds
England are priced at 1.28 to top the group. This is not a vintage England side that deserves scepticism. It is a genuinely deep squad under a manager who has already made them look far more convincing than anything produced in a qualifying campaign under Southgate.
Thomas Tuchel's record in qualifying tells you everything: eight wins from eight, 22 goals scored, zero conceded. That is not padding. That is a team executing a clear system with real conviction. The attacking core of Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, supported by Declan Rice in midfield, is among the most balanced units in international football right now. Elliot Anderson looks like he may have finally solved England's long-debated No.6 problem, bringing the defensive discipline and energy that role has always demanded.
There are still legitimate questions though. Reece James' injury history at right-back is a real concern, the left flank battle between Rashford and Anthony Gordon is unresolved, and Nico O'Reilly has barely played senior international football.
Behind Bellingham, the competition is fierce. Foden, Cole Palmer, and Morgan Rogers are all good enough to start for almost any nation at this tournament. The centre-back picture, with Guehi, Stones, and Konsa competing for two spots, is actually a strength in disguise, but it does reflect how Tuchel is still fine-tuning things.
Croatia Group L Odds
Never count Croatia out. That has been the rule for nearly three decades now, and nothing about this squad suggests it is about to change.
Their World Cup story reads like something scripted. Third place on their debut in 1998. Finalists in 2018, knocking England out along the way before losing to France. Then in Qatar, another deep run to the semi-finals, a defeat to eventual champions Argentina, and yet another third-place finish to send them home with dignity. No nation of their size has consistently punched this far above their weight at a World Cup, and a lot of that comes down to one man.
At 4.55 to win Group L, Croatia represents the most interesting line in this market. Zlatko Dalic has built one of international football's most remarkable cultures — one that somehow extracts more from ageing, technically-limited squads than anyone has the right to expect.
Yes, Modric turns 40 before the tournament. Yes, this isn't the Croatia of 2018. But Josko Gvardiol is one of the best defenders in world football, Mateo Kovacic (if fit) is a Premier League-tested engine, and Ivan Perisic, now at PSV, still has the capacity to win games on his own.
Their qualifying record matched England's in quality: 22 points from 24 matches. They know how to grind through groups. And crucially, their opener is against England — not a game they need to win, but one where they'll be motivated, organised, and dangerous from set pieces.
I personally wouldn't back Croatia to top the group, but at 4.50 to finish second? That's worth a look as an each-way alternative in any outright group market you can find it in.
Ghana Group L Odds
If Mohammed Kudus and Antoine Semenyo click on the international stage together, Ghana can hurt anyone. I would consider Ghana outsiders to win Group L at odds of 11.10.
This will be Ghana's fourth World Cup in the last five editions. Their most memorable moment came in 2010, when they were ninety seconds away from a semi-final before Luis Suarez handled on the line. Ghana missed the penalty and lost the shootout.
What followed was a difficult stretch. Group stage exits in 2014 and 2022 took the shine off, and missing out on AFCON recently added another layer of frustration to a squad that feels like it should be doing more on the big stage.
The qualifying campaign for 2026 was a step back in the right direction. Their qualifying run was strong: 8 wins from 10 matches. That's not a team scraped through on goal difference — that's a team with structure and momentum. Missing AFCON will have stung, and that frustration can either derail a camp or unite it.
Panama Group L Odds
At 51.00, Panama is the longest shot in the group, and realistically, that is about right. Topping Group L was never going to be the conversation.
Their route to this World Cup was far from comfortable. They needed a win on the final day of qualifying against El Salvador to secure their place. This will only be their second World Cup appearance, following a 2018 debut that produced three defeats including a 6-1 hammering from England.
Thomas Christiansen has been the man trying to change that story. The former Leeds manager has been in charge since 2020. Two runners-up finishes at the CONCACAF Gold Cup and Nations League suggest a team that is competitive within its region. Also, their opening game against Ghana is the one I would circle.

GoalBible's Final Betting View
England to top the group — no serious argument against that. The value play I'd highlight is Croatia second at 4.50, which I think is underpriced given their track record and the depth of Dalic's tactical setup.
For outright tournament purposes, England remains one of my preferred long-term bets at GoalBible. The squad depth under Tuchel looks stronger than it has in years, and Group L — on paper — should let them arrive at the knockouts in rhythm.
