FIFA World Cup 2026 Group A: Prediction, Latest Odds, Squad analysis by GoalBible
Group A at the World Cup 2026 already looks interesting, even though the final lineup is still incomplete. Mexico enters the tournament with home advantage, while South Korea brings strong momentum from qualification. South Africa returns after a long absence, and the UEFA Path D winner could easily change the balance of the group.
At GoalBible, I usually focus on form trends, squad balance, and tournament pressure before placing any bets. Group A has clear value markets if you read the situation carefully.

Mexico Group A Odds
In my opinion, predicting Group A is still tricky because the UEFA Path D winner has not been decided yet. Still, one thing feels clear to me — Mexico will be under serious pressure to get out of this group.
I still remember how El Tri were knocked out in the group stage at Qatar 2022, which ended their long streak of reaching the round of 16 in seven straight World Cups. They will have home advantage this time, but if the first match does not go their way, the atmosphere around the team could reverse very quickly.
Mexico still has several players who can decide their winning. For example, Santiago Gimenez, Hirving Lozano, and Edson Alvarez. Raul Jimenez is another player I will be watching closely after his strong 2025/26 season with Fulham. Javier Aguirre also started bringing younger players, such as Obed Vargas, Brian Gutierrez, and Armando Gonzalez to the squad. I expect their performance as well.
UEFA Path D Winner Odds
One key variable in this group remains unknown. If Denmark qualify, they immediately become a strong contender to win the group. The same could apply to the Czech Republic. Both teams have experience against top European opposition and could match Mexico physically. However, I also hope North Macedonia and the Republic of Ireland will cause a surprise and disrupt the expected outcome of the playoff.
South Korea Group A Odds
If you ask me, South Korea could easily turn into the dark horse of this World Cup. No matter which team comes through UEFA Path D, I feel South Korea will probably be the side that gives Mexico the most trouble in Group A.
Of course, Son Heung-min is still the biggest name in the team. But he is not carrying the squad alone. They also have quality players like Lee Kang-in from PSG, Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae, and Wolves forward Hwang Hee-chan. That supporting group gives the team a much better balance.
Another reason I take South Korea seriously is their recent tournament form. They reached the round of 16 in Qatar after two World Cups, where they failed to get out of the group. On top of that, they went through two qualification stages for this tournament without losing a single match.
South Africa Group A Odds
I actually find South Africa in this group quite interesting. This is their first World Cup appearance since they hosted the tournament in 2010, and overall, it’s only the fourth time they’ve played in the competition. What caught my attention is that this is also the first time since 2002 that they qualified through the full qualification campaign.
Looking at the squad, the player most people recognize is probably Burnley striker Lyle Foster, who scored 10 goals in 24 international matches so far. There’s also Shandre Campbell from Club Brugge, a young player who might get his chance before the tournament starts. Siyabonga Ngezana from FCSB is expected to play an important role in defence.
One thing I have to mention is that South Africa did well in the qualification. Finishing above Nigeria to top their group is not easy, and that result deserves credit. But if you compare their squad with other teams, the difference in star players is quite clear.
Group A Top Goalscorer Markets
While bookmakers do not offer a Group A top scorer market, several players from this group appear in Gembet’s tournament top goalscorer odds.

GoalBible Final Betting Tip
From my early look at Group A for GoalBible, there are generally two ways bettors might approach this group. One approach is the safer route, focusing on teams that are expected to progress. The other approach is looking for higher odds where a team could surprise the market.
Tournament football often rewards teams that stay organised, defend well, and attack quickly when chances appear. In a short group stage, small details like momentum and confidence after the first match can change the direction of the group very quickly.
